Don’t let your insurance plan limit you. Spend less out of pocket with your HSA or FSA funds.
HSA/FSA funds are great if you don’t have insurance OR if you’ve used your insurance benefits for the year. Particularly if you’re getting close to your FSA deadline and have money you need to spend, you can use your funds on a new pair of designer glasses or a back-up pair of glasses to have on hand when you need them.
An HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) is a benefit that’s offered by many employers that lets you set aside pre-tax dollars from every paycheck to use on healthcare expenses that aren’t covered by insurance.
When you need to pay for health-related expenses (including eye care!) you can use the funds for the part that’s not covered by insurance. You save money because the funds were set aside before taxes were deducted from them.
As a general rule, FSA funds must be used by December 31 or your company (the account owner) gets the money back. HSA funds do not have an expiration date. Be sure to check with your specific plan for your exact deadline and other details, whether you have an FSA or HSA.
